Do your graphic designers proof the editorial content of my design?NO. The designer views your project as a blank canvas looking at the bigger picture of style, sense, clarity of layout. As you send text content for placement designers will cut and paste positioning text as images, usuallly never reading what it says. To help in your design process generic text may be inserted instead of all Xxxxx's to assist you in the design process. You are responsible for ALL editorial so verify and proof it personally or hire the services of Dr.Proof.
What is the difference between Basic Proofreading and Advanced Copy Editing? In short, Basic Proofing examines the trees, while Advanced Copy Editing looks at the forest. Basic Proofing corrects errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation, as well as inconsistencies in format, capitalization, etc. Advanced copy editing does all that, and also looks at the bigger picture of style, sense, clarity, redundancies and questionable grammar and structure choices.
I have a spell checker on my computer. Why do I need you? A spell checker doesn’t know the difference between "peddle" and "pedal," or between "they’re," "there" and "their." But the people reading your work do. Who collects payment?Dr.Proof. We saw the need for a reputable proofing system and only offer this referral as a client benefit, we don't make money off our freelance workers which also includes our designers. Dr.Proof's rates are in U.S. dollars, but he can receive from and send to anywhere in the world. ALL orders must be paid prior start of project.
Do you charge more for rush orders? Depending on the size of your document, Dr.Proof offers a rush turnaround for a flat $50.00 surcharge, plus applicable courier charges (if your document is not transferred electronically). Let Dr.Proof know what specific deadline you need him to meet.
Is there a minimum amount of words or pages that Dr.Proof accepts? No, he accept jobs of any size. However, he does charge a minimum of $50.00 per job.
Does Dr.Proof offer member-to-member discounts?Yes, part of the agreement with our relationship all member-to-member particapants receive a determined discount off the total cost of the project (not including any rush surcharges). Simply inform Dr.Proof aof your particapation and we will verify it for him.
How and when do I pay you? There are two payment options: The easiest way is to pay by credit card, either through Dr.Proof's or by phone. Once the project is agreed Dr.Proof will bill your card. Or you can pay by money order or check in U.S. currency issued by a U.S. financial institution. Dr.Proof cannot begin work on your document until the check has cleared.
Can I trust Dr.Proof to be discreet?Yes! Dr.Proof has signed a confidentiality agreement guaranteeing that no client information of any kind will be released to anybody. For details, please see the Dr.Proof Privacy Policy.
How do I send my work to you, and how will I get it back? Pretty much whichever way suits you best. Dr.Proof prefers to receive documents via e-mail or ftp upload -- this allows for a much quicker transfer; and having an electronic, searchable file allows the Dr.Proof to do a better, more consistent job. If you prefer, you can also mail or courier or fax Dr.Proof your document. If you send Dr.Proof your document electronically, you have the choice of getting back a clean, corrected version and a redlined version showing exactly what changes were made to your document, or a marked-up or clean hard copy by mail, fax or courier, depending on your deadline. If you send us a hard copy, we can only return the marked-up hard copy.
What platforms and files can you work in?Dr.Proof can work in Windows. Dr.Proof work mostly in MS Word®, but can read, and work with, various spreadsheet and database formats, as well as most types of picture files, Final Draft® and Adobe Acrobat®.
